Scattering the Ashes

On the 26th Feb Meriet, Irene and John travelled to Eastbourne to scatter Robert’s ashes into the sea.

Meriet’s writes: The scattering went well! No “if it can it will go wrongs!” That is if you discount the swirling winds which kept bringing his ashes back all over my legs and and mine and Irene’s feet! The outgoing tide which refused to come in close enough to take the ashes and flowers (which Irene had picked and so beautifully put together from her back garden) back out with it… resulting in countless attempts to fill the urn with sea water to help push the ashes out which miraculously then came in so far it soaked my feet and jeans, but never quite reached the ashes!

Sat Nav freezing on the way home and Irene and I, talking all they way, not noticing until we were somewhere – we had no clue where – but it definitely was not the motorway we needed to get home! Robert would have despaired!

On the plus side! It was a fabulous day, with a wonderful lady who I can now proudly call my friend… no wonder Robert loved her so… Irene.. We giggled our way through the “if it can it will go wrong” moments and most importantly took Robert to where he had asked me to take him in the event of his dying which was to Eastbourne where we took his father. The very same place..

I hope Robert, somehow, can see how much he was loved and respected, not that it would have changed a thing… he had demons we could not reach… but now, please God he is truly at peace..

If only I could have a friend
Who sticks with me until the end
Just walk beside the sea
And share a bit of moon with me..
I’d take my friend most everywhere
La la la la la.. I wouldn’t care
And we’ll stay away from crowds
With signs that say no friends allowed
Oh we…
We’d be so happy to be..
Together..
