from Lisa

When my friend James got in touch to tell me Rob had passed away I could not believe it. It didn’t make sense. I did a strange thing and I called Rob’s number hoping he’d answer. He didn’t of course.

Rob wore double denim better than anyone I know. He loved his ripped jeans, cowboy boots and denim jacket — a Radmall standard.

I took this photo of Rob on my phone a few years ago when I dragged him along to see the old cells at the now Courthouse Hotel in what was the old prison cells of the Marlborough Street Magistrates Court building. Robert loved interesting facts and knowledge and he was fascinated by the history of the courthouse that was the scene for many famous cases over the years, involving figures such as John Lennon, Oscar Wilde, Johnny Rotten, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. In 1835 Charles Dickens worked as a reporter in the building.

Rob was always cheerful, regardless of how he was feeling. He was a loyal, patient friend (especially when trying to teach me to edit video) and a talented and intellectual individual — although he would never claim the latter. He probably knew more about photography and lighting than most of those he worked with (he did claim that fact), and he helped many photographers in carving their careers.

Rob will always be a highly respected individual for so many reasons.

I hope you are now resting your cowboy heels in peace. You will be greatly missed.

Adios my friend,

Lisa Young.
