Emails from …

Dear Will,

Very kind of you to get in touch: So saddened by the news.

I will all miss Robert’s sparkling knowledge and wit so much, a big hole has been left in my life.

He was one of life’s characters that make living that much more fun. Above all his many qualities he taught me that looking after your friends and embracing opportunity is far more valuable than anything material. Just a great man.

He is gone but never forgotten…

Kind Regards,

Colin

Dear Tom,

Thank you for getting in touch. I think the site is very touching -I spent a long while this evening reading it all.

Sadly I only only knew Robert as a friend in the last couple of years so have little to contribute, but I can say I have the same feelings as everyone that loved him so much. The fact that his friends like yourself take the
time to contact me says it all.

Thank you,
Colin.

Words escape me.

Robert was a good man, a great talent and one of a kind.

I am still having to come to term with the fact that he is no longer with us.

RIP my friend.

I was so sorry to hear about Rob and had no idea that he was troubled – I couldn’t say I knew him well but he did leave a lasting influence: He wasan inspirational and engaging figure and I still use examples from him in my work and with the students I teach.

Please let me know about the funeral arrangements as I’d like to attend.

As Rob would say, “On time is late”

Robert made a much bigger impact than he will ever know, I am still so incredibly sad and feel so much disbelief that Robert felt this was his only way of dealing with his demons. He certainly hid them well from me.

I hold him in my memory as a very unique and loyal caring friend who came into my family’s lives and just fitted in like a pair of his R.Sole boots. Comfortable.

We are who we are and Robert seemed to enjoy the normality of our family life. As indeed like anyone there were up’s and downs, endless debates about anything from what was in the news, to the antics of our tortoise Victor who Robert did not like at all.

Yes very sadly missed RIP Robert.

Kindest regards

Awful news, poor Rob. Left you a voicemail. Let me know when the funeral is – would like to try and come.

Very sad to hear the news. I’ve known Robert from my days of selling cameras, in the good old days of film. He was such a warm and generous man and I’m devastated by the news.

I’d very much like to come and pay my respects so please could you let me know when you hear about the funeral details.

Thanks

OMG I am so sad right now. Robert was such a beautiful and gentile soul. Always willing to help just perfect I am speechless right now. May he rest in peace I had no ideas about his depression. I am in Canada right now but we were trying to catch up when I am back again.

I am shocked and saddened.

Robert was a good friend and we always had lots of giggles and moans about stuff on a regular basis. I will miss his lengthy phone calls and sampling London’s coffee houses.

Robert was a walking encyclopaedia of knowledge and I only wish I could have helped him fight his demons, but he didn’t ever let on he was suffering. But he was always there to support others in their lives and their careers when they needed him.

Robert loved music, and I hope he is sitting behind the biggest and best drum kit and playing to his heart’s content.

Please keep me posted regarding any arrangements.

Lisa Young.

This is awful news. Truly terrible. Robert has been my mentor and inspiration for the past 6 years. Why?

I too heard about his time in Paris, only saw him in denim and boots (and what boots!) and heard his catchphrase “if you are on time, you are late” (I sense I have mis-quoted).

I have had probably 100 customers buy properties from me, yet only Robert left such an indelible mark on my mind.

I only came across the RIP website after he popped into my mind and determined to reach out and say ‘hello, how’s the flat?’ I Google’d him and found the website. Such sad news indeed.

Well done to all those in creating the website to remember a man who was truly unique and clearly profoundly missed.

Kind regards,

Jonathan

I don’t have any pics of him…HE always had the Camera. He took this *It’s been my Toracube Youtube Channel pic for 4 years. I can hear him going If it can go wrong, it WILL go wrong’ Used to spend a lot of time with him in Virgin and HMV Records laughing at bad record covers… So many coffees in Aroma…they thought we were a gay couple… Never saw this coming… I’d give anything to have him back.
